Easing into the day
Since I support the West Coast, my mornings usually start by reviewing overnight requests from colleagues and international customers. From there I focus on what needs attention first along with balancing my regular daily responsibilities.
Where the work happens
Much of my day is spent working with sales, logistics, depots, and the operations team to keep equipment moving. That includes steering units to customers or depots, supporting returns and releases in my assigned areas, and reviewing EDI errors to catch and resolve potential system, depot, or process issues early.
The part that keeps it interesting
My favorite part of the role is that no two days are the same. There is always a new request, opportunity, or challenge to learn from. The most rewarding part is being able to solve problems for our customers and help get things moving in the right direction.
What it takes to succeed
Communication, organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving are all important in this role. Flexibility matters too, because priorities can shift quickly when urgent customer or depot issues come up.
I also try to do my recurring daily tasks around the same time each day. Maintaining routine helps me stay organized and makes it easier to keep track of what still needs to be done.
Advice for someone considering a career in operations and customer support
I would tell them to stay curious and ask questions. There are a lot of moving pieces in container shipping, and the best way to learn is to understand how each part of the process connects. It also helps to be patient and comfortable working through problems as they come up.
