The focus
Oceans and coastal ecosystems are vital for human health, weather regulation, and global trade. They continue to suffer from pollution, with plastic waste, cigarette butts, and discarded fishing gear threatening marine life, coastal communities and our food chain with toxic waste. Recognizing the urgency of this issue, Triton International sought to expand its global cleanup initiative in 2024, building on previous years' efforts to engage more employees and reinforce its commitment to sustainability. The challenge was to mobilize volunteers from multiple offices worldwide, promote corporate responsibility, and ensure that significant amounts of waste were removed from coastal areas before causing environmental harm.
Our efforts
For the third consecutive year, Triton’s global team partnered with local organizations to participate in coastal cleanups, dedicating over 150 volunteer hours to removing waste and debris. Volunteers from ten different offices worked together to collect enough waste to fill over two dozen large garbage bags, preventing pollutants from entering marine ecosystems.
“Each year, we see more volunteers eager to get involved. It’s wonderful to see the Triton community coming together for a cause that benefits us all,” said John Queenan, Director, ESG.
Regional highlights
- Singapore: Volunteers kayaked to a secluded beach, accessible only by boat, to conduct a cleanup. This effort provided both an environmental impact and a unique team-building opportunity.
- Purchase, NY: In addition to cleaning the coastal area, volunteers installed 150 feet of trail boardwalks with chicken wire to improve safety for hikers.
- London: Instead of a beach cleanup, volunteers worked at a wetland center, cutting down tree stems, pruning hedgerows, and gardening to preserve the habitat.
- Hong Kong: Volunteers were joined by customers, strengthening partnerships while participating in conservation efforts.
This year also marked a milestone as the Sydney and London teams participated for the first time, expanding Triton’s environmental efforts to new regions.
The impact
Triton’s 2024 Coastal Cleanup initiative reinforced the company’s commitment to sustainability, global collaboration, and employee engagement. The Purchase, NY Office event had over 40 participants, making it the largest cleanup in Triton’s history. The initiative helped to strengthen Triton’s global collaboration, with employees from Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Sydney, Shanghai, Mumbai, London, and Hong Kong working together. Fostered community and customer relationships, with Hong Kong volunteers working alongside key business partners. Expanded Triton’s corporate citizenship commitments, demonstrating the company’s long-term investment in sustainability.
